Diploma of Arts in Social Work and Social Administration (DSWASA)

The Diploma of Arts in Social Work and Social Administration (DSWASA) is a 2-year program that offers foundational training in social work practice, community engagement, and public administration. This diploma is ideal for students passionate about addressing social issues, advocating for vulnerable groups, and working within welfare and development systems.

1. Direct Entry

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with at least five passes

  • Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) with at least one principal pass in relevant subjects, such as:

    • History

    • Geography

    • Entrepreneurship

    • Literature

    • Christian Religious Education

    • Divinity

    • Other related humanities or social science subjects

2. Mature Age Entry

Applicants must:

  • Be at least 25 years old

  • Pass a Mature Age Examination certified by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) with a minimum score of 50%
    This pathway is designed for individuals with practical experience in community-based work, church or NGO service, or public service but without the required academic documents.

3. Certificate Entry

Applicants must possess:

  • A certificate in a relevant discipline (e.g., Social Work, Counseling, Community Development) from a recognized institution

  • Or, evidence of having obtained at least five passes at different stages of UCE
    This route is suitable for individuals who have undertaken short professional courses or foundational education and are seeking formal qualification in the field of social work.

The diploma program focuses on the knowledge and practical skills needed to operate effectively in social welfare, community development, and public service contexts. Learning is delivered through lectures, simulations, group projects, and field placement.
