Bachelor of Arts in Social Work and Social Administration (BSWASA)

The Bachelor of Arts in Social Work and Social Administration (BSWASA) is a 3-year undergraduate program that provides students with both academic and practical preparation for professional practice in the fields of social work, welfare policy, and administrative services. The program is designed for individuals passionate about social justice, human development, community empowerment, and advocacy for marginalized populations.

1. Direct Entry

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) with at least five passes

  • Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) with at least two principal passes in relevant subjects, including:

    • Economics

    • Geography

    • Entrepreneurship

    • History

    • Literature

    • Divinity

    • Christian Religious Education

    • Or other related humanities or social science subjects

2. Mature Age Entry

Applicants who are at least 25 years old and do not meet the formal academic qualifications may apply through this route. To qualify, applicants must:

  • Pass a Mature Age Examination certified by the NCHE with a minimum score of 50%
    This route provides an opportunity for experienced individuals working in community service, NGOs, or church-based social programs to earn a degree and formalize their knowledge and experience.

3. Diploma Entry

Applicants must possess:

  • A Diploma in a relevant field (e.g., Social Work, Public Administration, Development Studies, Counseling, or Community Psychology) from an institution recognized by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE)
    This pathway is ideal for students who have already completed foundational studies and want to upgrade their qualifications.

Program Structure:

The BSWASA program integrates theoretical knowledge with hands-on practical training. Students are exposed to real-world social work environments through fieldwork placements and service-learning opportunities in governmental, faith-based, and non-governmental organizations.
